Our Story

Our Story

Every brand begins with a problem. Ours began with a gap we could not ignore.

Back when we started in Pune, small cafés across the city were serving coffee made from retail products. Not because they wanted to, but because they didn’t know wholesale coffee existed — and because the wholesale supply chain was broken. Instant coffee in India was dominated by a few big players, and the distribution never reached beyond supermarkets. If you were a small café owner, you were left with no choice but to use jars bought off a retail shelf.

We saw an opportunity to change that.

The early days

We began by supplying wholesale instant coffee to independent cafés, showing them that they could cut costs, improve quality, and build a better coffee experience for their customers. Word spread quickly. From Pune we expanded across Maharashtra, and then across the country.

Along the way, we set up an office and warehousing facility in Pune to manage the growing demand. What started as simple trading soon grew into something much bigger.

Building our backbone

As volumes increased, we invested in our own blending and packaging facility. That gave us control over quality and consistency. From there, we built our own roasting and spray-drying plant. No longer just traders, we became manufacturers with the ability to produce, innovate, and scale.

We began supplying not only to wholesalers and traders but also to merchant exporters, making Indian coffee reach international markets.

Today, our B2B business supplies thousands of kilos of instant coffee every month, powering countless cups across India and beyond. But even as the business grew, one thought kept coming back to us.

Why retail?

When we looked at the retail coffee shelves, one thing struck us: everything looked the same. The same jars, the same flavors, the same boring story. Coffee, which should be about energy and inspiration, had become dull and predictable.

We knew it was time for something different.

Calisto was born out of the desire to make coffee exciting again. To bring innovation into a category that had gone stale. To create flavors that surprise people. To make coffee not just a routine, but a culture.

Why the name Calisto?

The name Calisto comes from the Greek word kallistō, which means “the most beautiful.” In mythology, Callisto was a nymph who was transformed into a constellation, a reminder that beauty can shine even in the darkest sky.

For us, Calisto represents that same spark. A light that cuts through the monotony of everyday life. A reminder that even in the most mundane moments, beauty and energy can exist — if you know where to look.

Our mission

At Calisto, our mission is simple: to elevate the mundaneness of life through a carefully prescribed dose of coffee.

We believe coffee should do more than just wake you up. It should make you feel alive, inspired, and ready to take on whatever comes your way. Whether it is through our bold alcohol-inspired flavors, our clean sourcing from farms in Coorg and Chikmagalur, or our sustainability initiatives, we are building a brand that stands for more than just another jar on the shelf.

Looking forward

We began in B2B, built a backbone of manufacturing and scale, and now step into retail with the same hunger that started it all. The difference is that this time, we are not just solving a supply chain problem. We are building a culture, a movement, a community around coffee.

Calisto is not just coffee. It is our way of telling the world that the ordinary can be extraordinary.

And this is just the beginning.
